FANTASTIC research! You made great points at the end about the Warriors. Since Steph has a certain skillset and the current Warriors roster perfectly compliments his skills, the front office will have next to no problem writing the checks as long as it keeps them contenders.
"You know you're good when you get paid, but you know you're great... when you get other people paid." This quote, and all of your previous videos, is why you're a master at your outros, Jxmy. The thing about the Warriors is how perfectly their contract situations line up for the future. If they want to keep Kuminga, Moody, and Wiseman, they have Klay and Draymond’s deals expiring at exactly the right time to get that done. And who knows, at that point you may be able to bring those two back on significantly cheaper deals as well. They have worked the cap to perfection to set themselves up for a long time.
Another one out of the box and another one that will remain in my memory long enough for JimmyHighroller to put up another one that takes everything to a higher level of quality and entertainment...You have a way of turning the most mundane things into something worth thinking hard about after each of your vids....
This man has been putting together such quality NBA statistics for years that I’m ACTUALLY SURPRISED a franchise in the league has not yet picked him up to break down certain numbers in order to win a chip for that specific franchise

What’s actually more impressive to me than all the quality research, editing and graphs is the fact that he is still able to come up with great topics for videos for all these years. He could lose his edge like a show going into its 10th season and no one would fault him at all, yet it just doesn’t happen
here is an interesting take. 5 years from now we may have 5 active players in the top 10 all time points leaders, i don't think that has ever happened before so if it does it will be unique.
I think that's what happens when you don't default to creating videos everyday like other creators. Gives him time to actually think stuff through. It's honestly refreshing.
Can you make a video on why nba teams want to win a championship so badly? how much money does winning a chip generate for the owners and players. Are all the spending worth it? How it changed through the years. I think it's not talked about so much
Great video. I wish he would have also touched on dynasty type teams in which players’ value gets propped up because they are winning, or on the winning team. As well as “home grown” talent. If you look at the warriors, what are they supposed to do when their young talented players grow within their system to help them get a championship? You pay them
Another fantastic video which made me wonder… What about the coaches? Steve Kerr must have a huge impact on the team. It’d be great to hear your take on that.
Never watched a NBA game live. Not in person, not on TV. Might have something to do with me being Norwegian, but still. And yet, I've been watching Jimmy's videos intently the last 3-4 years. Seeing you grow into an absolute behemoth of an NBA content creator has been pure joy. I hope you one day get picked up by a major network and get to show the world what you got on an even bigger scale. It would be a sad day for us, but a win for the world. I'm proud of you. We're proud of you. Long may it last.
@David JR oh ur a foreigner well no one cares about what u watch soccer is the most boring sport on earth doesn’t even deserve to be mentioned next to football
Sometime around 5 years ago you really started to nail how to do great narration, pacing yourself while being clear and confident yet laid back. It really set you apart. Keep up the good work.
I love your videos and ALWAYS appreciate the time and research that you out into them; but simply out,you just cannot buy chemistry or dudes sacrificing for the “greater good” of winning a chip and committing to playing their part and doing whatever is required from them to win a chip
Another one out of the box and another one that will remain in my memory long enough for JimmyHighroller to put up another one that takes everything to a higher level of quality and entertainment...You have a way of turning the most mundane things into something worth thinking hard about after each of your vids....
at this point, Steph supermax contract is not just to keep him around (silly for you to think Steph going somewhere outside Warriors) but it is also served as "thank you for your hard work, service, and devotion to this team that whatever money you ask is always affordable for us unless you want to sent us to bankruptcy". Steph deserves it.
@John J Perricone fair enough, still some titles matter more than others. 2011 Mavs and 2017 Warriors titles might have the same value on paper but in reality the Mavs title matters more than warriors superteam title.
@kaitsu We're gonna have to agree to disagree. No championship team deserves to be tainted by injury claims. Every year, every team faces injuries. It's like arguing that LeBron should've been called for goaltending on the Iguodala play. The Dubs have four titles, and each one of them represents going through four best-of-seven gauntlets against the best teams in the league, period.
@John J Perricone tatum, smart and rob williams played injured. 2019 is fair, warriors would've probably won without injuries but 2015 kyrie and love, 2017 kawhi, 2018 Boogie, CP3 were the reasons why warriors won.
@kaitsu Are you in the "Warriors got lucky cuz opponents were injured?" camp? Cuz that camp is pretty fucking lame. Celtics weren't injured. Dubs had many players miss time w/ injuries during their 6 Finals in 8 years run. Teams always get injured. Warriors don't lose to Cavs OR Raptors if they hadn't been hit w/ injuries. Injuries are part of what teams have to deal with.
You know youre good content creator when you get complimented about the video content. You know youre great when everybody compliments the whole video itself. Thank you for another quality NBA video!
Jimmy always gas great analysis and formating for his videos. A team needs to hire this dude as a numbers guy, when I become a GM I am offering this man a job!
Great video as usual. I would like to just point out here. It seems to me, in USA, if ownerships/organisations spend a lot of money and assemble a super team, then win. It’s frowned upon or call it “easy” championship. I love basketball and football/soccer. In football, fans would be pissed if owners are not willing to spend money. Fans want to see the best players or great players joining their team. Fans from other teams will be jealous but so what. 2002 UEFA Champions League winners were Real Madrid. They had assembled a team of superstars, even bigger than the GSW 2017 team. The world and the owner call them the “Galacticos”. His ultimate goal was to win the coveted UEFA Champions League and he was willing to spend then record fees for football players. I would like to add, keeping your players from injuries are part of the sports team responsibilities as well. A legendary football manager once said, to be a champion, you need talent, hard work, the most important of all, LUCK. You don’t really see football fans moaning “that team won because of injuries on the other team”. That’s why teams need a deep roster. For that, they need to spend money. But spending money in USA is frowned upon and owners are laughing their way to the bank.
When you see people in the opponent's venues showing up early to watch Steph warm-up and wearing his shirt number you know you have something very special. Three home-grown All Stars plus Wiggins an All Star because he's on the team. Look at the Nets, look at the results. These guys have earned their contracts and ,yes, they are being punished for smart draft picks and putting together a team first ethos that has not been matched for a while.
«These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God». «Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them». «For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive». «Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person-though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us». «Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die». So, believe in our Lord Jesus Christ
@Kyvern I'm not trying to discount Lebron's championship. It's just a comparison about how the other guy was only saying that Curry's championships were easy street, one of them because of the injured Cavs. My point is, it's not just Curry's/The Warrior's championships that were like that, but that you can make an excuse for almost every single championship won. No hate on Lebron, or Giannis, or Kawhi, or anyone else for that matter. Just showing it goes both ways, so people should stop trying to diminish the championships won by players they don't like.
Duncan was vastly underpaid! Which is super unfair for the league... even today. They should have another contract done, for only one player in the roster => franchise player contract for 10 years where only the max contract value goes in the cap (and luxury tax) and you can pay him any bonus you want... that would be a middle ground between Jordan's contract and Duncan's real value.
Funny enough, the NBA might implement a hard cap that will make it harder for Lacob to retain his star players. The timing of these videos is so good! W video as always
I like the nature of the question in the title, when I first read it I thought Jimmy would talk about setting up matches and thought to myself 'That's not like Jimmy' then I realised it was about the player's salaries. Good job as always Jimmy.
Jimmy always gas great analysis and formating for his videos. A team needs to hire this dude as a numbers guy, when I become a GM I am offering this man a job!
Great video. I think it's a little unfair to compare cost-controlled players to guys who have signed free agent deals. By definition the players who sign those large contracts will be "overpaid" and vice versa. You'd want to see how much teams spent on wins through their free agent/market signings to determine how wins are valued instead of averaging it with all the young stars dragging down the cost of wins by playing for pennies on the dollar.
great video as always, one thing i noticed not taken into account tho is how much star power some of these players have (i.e. if you're a household name or more popular in the world of basketball more people are going to buy tickets to come see you/watch when yr team plays/sell more merch and so forth). i think that also factors into their salary and might not have anything to do with their win shares
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your videos. I’m from Sweden where basketball is not that big over here. Your videos made me a lot more interested in the actual sport, rather than only watching conference finals and finals highlights. Quality content!
When you think about the value a guy actually brings to an organization it goes so far beyond just winning. Look at the value a guy like curry brought to the Bay (of course we won and that exacerbates this) but they increased their value by billions over his time there. I don’t think it’s crazy to say curry is worth over a billion to the warriors when you take this into consideration. Insane stuff
Most overlooked thing by owners and GM's is team chemistry/culture. Everyone looks at how a person's stats will counter others, how their defense/3 point shooting will help space the floor or make things hard for the opponent. The great dynasties have culture and a team that's played together for years. Bulls, Spurs, Lakers, GSW. Hell, even take it outside of basketball and look at those years of barcelona with messi, iniesta and xavi. culture wins championships, not pocketbook.
Yeah look at football psg has all of the amazing players mbappe messi neymar donnoruma marqunious hakimi di maria veratti but the couldnt make it because the managers and the oil owners didn't understand how a team works it matters if these players can play together like example you named barca look at barca 2014 they knew how to play together
Keeping it on the football talk, look at how PSG has been doing in the quest for a Champions League and have an answer as to whether or not money gets you what you want in sports
You right the heat have had a great culture these past few years just not enough given to the team to really get them over that hump of winning the cavs are building a beautiful dynasty and culture as we speak post lebron the grizzlies seem like they have a culture but idk I feel like people can just leave they don’t feel as tightly constructed as the warriors the dynasty spurs or even the current cavs I feel like that will be there downfall
i have watched and loved jimmys videos for many years and i want to say that this is the most disappointing one ive watched so far. the warriors are not ‘buying a team’ they are instead rewarding the players for what theyre worth. The only player in the starting lineup not drafted by GS is wiggins. so to say the warriors have bought a championship is fairly wrong
Love the video. Would be really interested to see it go ever further with what does winning a championship do for a franchise financially. Also what generational talents can do for a franchise financially. Like MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Steph.. they help generate billlllions of dollars for their franchises - heck even for their markets. Lebron James financially effected the city cleveland . That’s nuts
I love the channel and the video overall but it does feel like it fails a bit to account for how much the brand name stars bring just that to their team, a brand name. Mathematically, KD and Dejounte Murray may have contributed to their teams equally but KD brings way more ticket/merch sales. Helps explain a bit more why owners are willing to “overpay” them
Another one out of the box and another one that will remain in my memory long enough for JimmyHighroller to put up another one that takes everything to a higher level of quality and entertainment...You have a way of turning the most mundane things into something worth thinking hard about after each of your vids....
What about players that take the minimum contract so there teams can bring in more talent for a shot at a title. I feel like that could change those numbers significantly. How many superstars could a team potentially have if all the players took minimum contracts. I don't know a whole lot about salary cap/contracts to be fair.
One thing that might be kinda related: does continuity/consistency make winning teams then? I mean, had the Knicks been somewhat smarter and willing to go the team- and- strategy- building - mile, would they have ended up with a contender team? Well, maybe that's too tall an order to begin with..
As a content creator your content is a inspiration and a case study to learn quality content, great script writing amazing voice over and tonation... Mixed that with great editing and you have yourself a recipe to build a media powerhouse
i don't even like the Warriors, but they shouldn't be punished for being good at developing their talent into players worthy of big contracts. if there's one thing you can't take away from them, it's that they're a true homegrown team.
Yeah exactly, why would you even punish a team that was built from scratch and slowly make it to the top ? The players just got what they deserved and the team is grateful to give it. They should punish the teams that overhaul the whole roster, coaching staff once a certain player arrives.
Lol yes. At some point, loads of talent out weighs chemistry & hard work. The only reason the 2004 Lakers & 2019 Warriors didn't cruise to their titles were due to key injuries to Karl Malone & Demarcus Cousins.
Crazy how the 11' Mavs has the #3 Payroll in the NBA but it's being labeled as Dirk's one-man show and the "toughest" ring. That blew my mind. Lowkey gotta give credits to Pops, 03' #16 05' #24 14' #19 Mad respect to the 04' Pistons too, #17 and actually none of their players are top 10 PER. Great team effort.
Hey jimmy mate, i’m from england and i want to say you’re in my top 5 youtubers of all time. Some of the best quality content out there, keep up the good work and never stop these !
I just realized Jimmy doesn't just make good videos. He is an AMAZING WRITER. This script hits hard!! Well written, well thought-through, well read - oh, and sure - the videos are GREAT! Well produced, well supported, great data insights, cool graphs, all of that is just cementing the points he's making in the video. But now I'm intrigued .. are there other channels this guy is doing? I mean I like the NBA stuff, but his talent is absurd, I would read/listen to this guy talk about anything really, with his depth and research - damn man - bring it! Finance, business, health and fitness, computers, tech, I mean that literally - I would LOVE to watch more content from this guy. It's almost like he found his niche with NBA, he crushed it, and he should absolutely continue dominating that domain on PLclip, but man I wish he'd expand to more channels or more topics. Mad props.
I can see why (given your brand) you're focusing on a player's utility in a purely game-play sense, but I still think it's a glaring oversight not to take in to account a player's marketing value. A big personality/name may not be playing much better than an average player, but they're probably selling more tickets/merchandise and bringing in more fans for a team.
I think this is a hard question to answer because of the way the contracts work. In the last 10 years or so it is almost guaranteed that by the time a max contract player is done with their 4 year contract they are no longer making the most money. So you really have to take into account what stage of the contracts the team is in when you consider cost vs wins.
Great video as always bro, may I suggest a video on how ridiculous it is that most NBA players contract bread is their second source of income/retirement 🤟🏾
You know, there's a video of Steph still in his rookie years talking about whether he was underpaid or not, and he said something along the lines of "I don't ask for much, I'm blessed and I'm thankful and I know I'm getting what I deserve, I'm happy with that" and that mentality is why he's where he is rn.
Amazing video and thank you for breaking it down!! nevertheless as the economy crisis keep rising, one needs to have different streams of income, a well detailed diversified investment portfolio in the financial markets is needed to survive, as well as secure a profitable investment future!
Wtf, y'all know Mrs Mercy Larry too wow, she’s really a good trader, she’s my portfolio manager, her skills are top notch.didn’t take her for the famous type
Yeah Mrs Mercy Larry !. She is an expert trader and a certified broker too, I've worked with her for months now, seems she processes trade for almost everyone lol, all you have to do is to follow her guidance .
Something that is missing in this analysis is the ticket and merchandise revenue that superstars like Curry, Giannis and Lebron generate..that also factors into paying these guys.
Besides that, teams will pay more a player who can carry them even if it's not better than other players in superteams for example. Sometimes your only star will get more than a teams 3rd star even if both win equally or it the other is actually more valuble. And another thing is the pro name. If you playing like 10 years in the league and you are a star even if you didn't win a chip or mvp - fmvp award will get more than "a 2 years in" player with a chip or even mvp. Cause its fact that the long that you are playing the more your contract grows. But what you said its the rule, not going to argue that, just naming some exceptions to make it more clear.
@DXBGaming not excactly, actualy they are about popularity. most of the time is the same thing but some players are more markatable while they contribute to team wins less than others that keep a low profile and they are not divas.
This guy is NBA front office material. I don’t know if he’s a college major in STATs, Mathematics, Athletics, Marketing, or if he’s just an NBA stats crunching wizard with no college degree at all. But this video was pretty impressive from a numbers perspective! Great job!
During the All-Star break last year I told all my friends that the Warriors and Celtics were going to go to the finals and it ended up being right and I was so fucking stoked🤣💯
I cannot tell you, how hard I, as a Knicks fan, started manically laughing when I saw this title.
@John Johnson keep being goofy
@John Johnson you’re such a crybaby lmao, keep crying
As a fellow Knicks fan, I feel you 😭😭😭
@John Johnson pov:ur a cavs fan
I dont get how you guys NEVER manage to get a superstar in the free agency
“The Thunder spent about 45 cents on their roster last season and still won more games than the Rockets, Pistons, and Magic.” 😂
Jordan laughing at Curry's 4 year deal has made my day. How do you come up with this stuff man 😂

@SossBoyK yep i think it was 3 yr 50 million contract still wasn't as bad when they damn near gave roy hibbert a max
@Markel Scott that deal was insane😭

How did you get $120M for Jordan's 1998 salary in 2023 dollars? I'm using an inflation calculator and I'm coming up with ~$61M.
Like the reply above me said, you have to include the fact that the NBA is making tons and tons more money than they used to. The world and the NBA have changed tremendously in the past two decades, and the NBA is making basically double the money that they used to.
relative to how much the nba makes not just inflation

Great video. I wish he would have also touched on dynasty type teams in which players’ value gets propped up because they are winning, or on the winning team. As well as “home grown” talent.
If you look at the warriors, what are they supposed to do when their young talented players grow within their system to help them get a championship? You pay them

Another fantastic video which made me wonder…
What about the coaches?

@David JR not even gay so that word means nothing to me but ur weird europoor
@Wuss Restbrook Go for a run f@ttie 😂
@David JR oh ur a foreigner well no one cares about what u watch soccer is the most boring sport on earth doesn’t even deserve to be mentioned next to football
@Wuss Restbrook No its not, it's only american sports which is why nobody watches them, I watch football, real one not american handegg "football"
@David JR that’s literally every sport lmaoo
"You know you are good when you get paid. You know you are GREAT when you get other people paid." Thats a great line dude. Well done.

Let’s be honest, y’all weren’t expecting Jimy to upload🙌❤️🔥
I have at least one hidden camera in each room of jxmy’s house. As long as he is home, I know his every move
how i like it
Never do but it’s a blessing
I thought I was gonna have to wait another month
I’ll be honest , I never expected someone to butcher the spelling of jimmy that badly

I cannot tell you, how hard I, as a Knicks fan, started manically laughing when I saw this title.
Steph was underpaid when he was in his mvp years
@John J Perricone fair enough, still some titles matter more than others.

Just listening to the first few seconds and I can already say the answer is yes. That's mainly how the Lakers won their titles
This guy knows how to make stats and charts. ESPN needs to give him his own spot.
Bro thanks for putting so much work into these. Appreciate how much effort was put for just one video. Insane info right there

Duncan and Hakeem winning championships with payrolls not even ranked top 15 is really impressive 🤯
@John Johnson u keep saying this exact replie under people's comments
@John Johnson GSW drafted Curry-Klay and Green and they won 2 without KD.

You'd want to see how much teams spent on wins through their free agent/market signings to determine how wins are valued instead of averaging it with all the young stars dragging down the cost of wins by playing for pennies on the dollar.

dude's abusing the linear regression
great video as always, one thing i noticed not taken into account tho is how much star power some of these players have (i.e. if you're a household name or more popular in the world of basketball more people are going to buy tickets to come see you/watch when yr team plays/sell more merch and so forth). i think that also factors into their salary and might not have anything to do with their win shares

@Matheus Marinho man city too
Keeping it on the football talk, look at how PSG has been doing in the quest for a Champions League and have an answer as to whether or not money gets you what you want in sports
As a big Barca fan, im glad that you mentioned them
i have watched and loved jimmys videos for many years and i want to say that this is the most disappointing one ive watched so far. the warriors are not ‘buying a team’ they are instead rewarding the players for what theyre worth. The only player in the starting lineup not drafted by GS is wiggins. so to say the warriors have bought a championship is fairly wrong

MJ laughing at Stephs contract was gold 😂
Love the video. Would be really interested to see it go ever further with what does winning a championship do for a franchise financially. Also what generational talents can do for a franchise financially. Like MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Steph.. they help generate billlllions of dollars for their franchises - heck even for their markets. Lebron James financially effected the city cleveland . That’s nuts
But how much money is the team bringing in based on what they pay for their roster?

I love the channel and the video overall but it does feel like it fails a bit to account for how much the brand name stars bring just that to their team, a brand name.
Mathematically, KD and Dejounte Murray may have contributed to their teams equally but KD brings way more ticket/merch sales. Helps explain a bit more why owners are willing to “overpay” them

Well, maybe that's too tall an order to begin with..
those clips of jordan laughing when referencing the cap were brilliant 😂

Lowkey gotta give credits to Pops,
03' #16
05' #24
14' #19
Mad respect to the 04' Pistons too, #17 and actually none of their players are top 10 PER. Great team effort.

Mad props.
i love how he just scrolls through weeks and months of hard work so casually, keep grinding jimmy!

Probably you are right, but those factors are just the effect of winning games and winning a championship.
